Isles of Scilly, 2010

Isles of Scilly 2010

Twelve of us made the trip to Scilly again this year. I've also learnt that you cannot say 'Scillies' – it's a bit like not saying 'many cup of coffees'....should be Isles of Scilly, not Isle of Scillies!

The 12 included 2 walkers (Sue and Yvonne), 4 non-club members (Catherine, Roger, Shera & Neil) and 6 club members (Pete, Libby, Angus, Ed, Zuzanne, Ian). Five 'Scilly virgins' this year.

The diving was great, as usual. The weather forecast was a bit worrying, but the windy stuff seemed to skirt round to the North until Friday, when it got a little choppy. Unfortunately it was not calm enough to dive the Western Rocks, but the underwater viz was pretty good - 15+ metres at times.

Bath 33 Scillies Trip 2005

Bath Club were lucky enough to get a cancellation week with Tim Allsop of Scilly Diving. 11 divers and 2 guests took over Rock Cottage and the Dive Flat for the week of Sept 3rd for a week of hard boat diving, with another guest Chas who had a re-breather.

Catering was organised by 2 house mothers- Janet and Pete- and everyone chipped in with a mixture of home cooking and walks to the pub or Arthurs' cafe for fish and chips night. Amazingly the dive flat lasted 5 days before cracking and buying treacle tart from the St Martins bakery but it went downhill from then.

Four of us met up at QAB for our first ocean dive of the season (and Ian's first dive in British seas).

  • Tom Templeton (dive marshal)
  • Nick Waterfield
  • Ian Stratton
  • Dave Raggett

The weather proved to be better than expected and we even had a calm sunny period for lunch followed by a light shower for desert. This was a first sea dive of the season, so we took it fairly easy. Just as well as it turned out!

This dive report really starts the preceding weekend, when Pete collected Uncle John from its annual servicing at Samspeed. Martin offered us an excellent second hand engine to replace our elderly Yamaha, and after some hectic phoning round, we accepted. As a result, 3 of us drove back to Samspeed on Good Friday, and collected the engine and what we hoped would be a full set of installation bits.
